About Norwalk Current

Our Mission:

Norwalk Current delivers trusted, independent journalism that informs Norwalkers, holds power to account, and drives community engagement.

What started out as a mom-and-pop digital local news source in 2012 is evolving. NancyOnNorwalk proved that Norwalkers want trustworthy local news they can rely on. Over the past decade, we’ve survived the headwinds challenging local news. Now we’re looking forward to delivering even more up-to-date, relevant, and unbiased news and information Norwalk needs.

Norwalk Current is the locally produced, locally trusted news source with its pulse on what’s happening in the community. We deliver accurate, timely, and relevant information to those who live and work in Norwalk so they can make decisions about their lives and actively engage in the democratic process.

Norwalk Current serves:

As a Trusted Source of Local News: We deliver news and information at a time when local news is in great decline across our nation, and people are hungry for local news they can trust.

To Hold Leaders Accountable: By seeking truth and reporting facts, are a bridge between community expectations and municipal actions, helping to maintain public confidence in civic institutions and ensuring that democracy works for everyone.

To Foster Community Engagement: By creating space for civic input and delivering transparent information, we narrow the gap between what citizens expect and local agencies deliver, strengthening democracy and building deeper community connections.

FOUNDERS

Nancy Chapman

Nancy Chapman was a co-founder, with her husband Mark, of NancyOnNorwalk, the original name for Norwalk Current. Recognizing gaps in local coverage, Nancy and Mark created the site to provide consistent, in-depth reporting on Norwalk’s government, schools, land development, and community affairs. When Mark passed away suddenly in 2016, Nancy continued reporting. Over the next decade as local news outlets disappeared across the rest of the country, NancyOnNorwalk provided the city with much-needed hyperlocal news. Nancy passed away in 2024 after a battle with cancer. Her legacy continues.

Mark Chapman

Mark Chapman was a co-founder and supported NancyOnNorwalk’s mission to deliver consistent, community-focused local journalism. He worked behind-the-scenes as Nancy’s editor and publisher to help sustain operations and strengthen the site’s role as a trusted source of news covering Norwalk’s government, people, and civic life.

Eric Chapman

Eric Chapman supported NancyOnNorwalk’s mission of delivering consistent, community-focused local journalism. Working behind the scenes and in collaboration with his parents, Eric built the original website. He helped sustain operations and strengthen the site’s role as a trusted source of news covering Norwalk’s government, people, and civic life. Eric retired from the organization in 2024.
