Norwalk Senior Center announces second annual pickleball tournament fundraiser

NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Senior Center will hold its second annual pickleball tournament Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the event of rain, a backup date is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13.

The tournament is round-robin style with a minimum of three games guaranteed for all participants. The event is open to intermediate skill-level players ages 50 and older.

Early-bird registration is available now at $35 per player and will increase to $50 per player after Sept. 1. Registration is limited to two-player teams, while single players will be randomly paired with a partner for the tournament. Those interested in registering can do so online.

First place team will win a cash prize, though there will be raffle prizes as well as food and refreshments.

The tournament will take place at the Norwalk Senior Center, 11 Allen Road, and proceeds will support the center, a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Community members who are unable to play can support the center with a $15 donation, which includes a commemorative tournament T-shirt while supplies last, according to a press release.

Online payments for registration, T-shirts and donations are all made through Square, but the center invites those who prefer to pay with cash or check to visit the front desk before the tournament or mail their payment to:

Pickleball, like my other irrational bugbear — geese — is an abomination that should be banned.
