NORWALK, Conn. — The Democratic state delegation representing Norwalk has endorsed Barbara Smyth for mayor, citing her record on education, housing, and city infrastructure.
The endorsement, announced Oct. 17, marks a show of unity among the city’s Democratic leadership ahead of the Nov. 4 general election.
The delegation includes Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff and state representatives Kadeem Roberts (137th District), Travis Simms (140th), Lucy Dathan (142nd), and Dominique Johnson (143rd). All expressed confidence in Smyth’s leadership and vision for the city following her Democratic primary victory.
“Having worked alongside Barbara Smyth on crucial initiatives for Norwalk, we know firsthand her dedication and ability to deliver for our community,” Duff said. “Her experience as Common Council president and her clear focus on issues like education, responsible growth, and infrastructure make her the clear choice to lead Norwalk forward.”
Smyth thanked the delegation for its unified support. “This endorsement sends a strong message: Democrats stand united,” she said. “I am honored to have their backing and look forward to partnering with them to build a more affordable, resilient, and equitable future for Norwalk.”
Johnson said Smyth’s leadership is marked by compassion and inclusion. “She is a leader with a compassionate heart,” Johnson said. “She will work hard so that no one will be left behind as we find our way forward into a new way for Norwalk.”
Simms called Smyth “a compassionate and proven leader who has always put people first.” Roberts described her as “the right choice to lead Norwalk forward,” citing her “excellence, transparency, and steadfast commitment to serving all residents.”
Dathan said Smyth’s experience as a former Common Council president and educator brings “a rare blend of practical experience and deep empathy to public service.”
Smyth’s campaign platform focuses on strengthening public schools, encouraging responsible growth to address housing affordability while preserving neighborhood character, and investing in infrastructure to reduce flooding and traffic congestion.
