It’s time to take action against the school shooting hoaxes harming our children

As a concerned parent, I am deeply troubled by the recent school shooting hoaxes and the fear they bring to our community. These threats, often spread via social media, cause panic, disrupt learning, and waste valuable law enforcement resources. It’s crucial that we take action to raise awareness about the serious consequences of these threats both legal and emotional.

I propose that our school district engage in a district-wide initiative to educate middle school students on the impact of hoaxes and threats. Perhaps a virtual town hall, or even an assembly, could provide resources, coping strategies, and updates on school safety measures. Inviting law enforcement or other professionals to speak directly to students of appropriate age would help them understand that these hoaxes are not pranks, but serious crimes with far-reaching consequences.

Mental health support must also be prioritized. Lockdowns, drills, and threats place significant emotional stress on students. Offering more resources and follow-up discussions with counselors could help ease the toll these incidents take on our children. Parents need guidance on how to navigate these challenges with their children and the school community, and a virtual platform for parent engagement could foster this collaboration.

Additionally, I’d like to see a more transparent discussion on school safety measures, particularly regarding School Resource Officers and the steps being taken to ensure school security.

As a community, we need to work together to provide a safe environment for our students, teachers, and parents. By proactively addressing these concerns, we can help alleviate the uncertainty and anxiety that follow such traumatic events.

Sincerely,
Diana Paladino Christopher

The warm and fuzzy approach is nice and needed but please don’t try and tell us that this is the answer. If you don’t think the 10-Adult actually probably a little younger can’t comprehend what they are doing I have a bridge to sell you. The kids today thanks to Social Media and other avenues are a LOT smarter and knowledgable than we can even fathom. They totally understand what they are doing and the fact especially in Connecticut that the consequences if ANY are less then a slap on the wrist. Further when they turn 18 thanks to the horrible decision by the
Democrats and Lamont to give them a totally clean slate! No charges from the past will be anywhere on their record. It’s time to actually and don’t get scared but GET TOUGH!! We need real punishment and consequences for these types of crimes and YES not only is it crime but actually Domestic Terrorism! These kids need to be held accountable and put in Jail. And in some cases the parents should be charged as well. You want this to stop then lets take real serious actions and enough of the warm and fuzzies that constantly puts band-aid on this. This reminds me of the parents that assaulted the Football coach last year. Someone posted he’s a great guy but had a bad day..Yeah that’s where we are with these kids and the message must be made LOUD & CLEAR..These crimes and actions WILL NOT be tolerated regardless of age!
