Two Norwalk principals plan to retire early under BoE buyout

NORWALK, Conn. – Five Norwalk Public Schools administrators have taken up the Board of Education’s offer of a retirement incentive.

The Board in December offered administrators who have been with the schools for at least 15 years, and who will be 60 by June 30, a buyout. BoE Chairman Mike Lyons on Monday released the following list:

  • Deputy Superintendent of Schools Tony Daddona
  • Tracey Elementary School Principal Paul Krasnavage
  • Bea Krawicki, a Special Education administrator
  • Tracey Elementary School Curriculum Site Director Aileen Lamendola
  • Ponus Ridge Middle School Principal Linda Sumpter

The administrators who have been with the schools for 15 to 30 years will get 50 percent of their salary this year, while those that have been here for more than 30 years will get 75 percent.

Lyons said, “Funding is included in the regular ’15-’16 budget to allow for up to nine retirements, so we will easily cover these five.”

Norwalk is generous to its school administrators even in retirement. No surprise here.

Thank you all for your service to Norwalk. Best wishes for a healthy, happy retirement. You deserve it! ALL of you!

I hope none of these people move to Florida. They should continue to live in the area so that our tax dollars are reinvested in the local economy.

It would be a real shame if these people moved away to another state like Florida to retire on 6 figure pensions for life at the age of 60 (give me a break) while we are all stuck here as our property values flounder due to poor performing schools.

What is the buyout? The pensions are paid by the State. Why is money required from the budget? Is there more to the story than just pensions?

  5. Mike Lyons

Their pensions are paid by the State (with, of course, our tax dollars). The early retirement is paid for from the local budget.

So what was the early retirement incentive? Please explain in dollars from local budget. Thank you, Mike.

Oh – s the 50% and 75% in ADDITION to the pension? Maybe I hadn’t read that correctly.

  8. Mike Lyons

Its a payment of either 50% or 75% of their salary, paid in 4 equal installments over 4 years. This is above the state retirement. We funded next year’s budget to cover up to 9 retirements, and got 5.

    Dr. K and Mrs. Lamendola,
Thank you for your years of service to mine, and many more children. I wish you all the best! Lots of love…

They will definitely be missed! I wish them both well.

All these people are fantastic administrators and I will miss them! Bea K. Is the best special Ed adm. Norwalk has had! She is a wonderful advocate for the Norwalk kids! Tony Daddona has done a great job in every capacity and hat he has worn for Norwalk !

Bill – you wouldn’t want to be hanging since Bea Krawiecki was 60. She’s devoted her entire life to Norwalk children, particularly those with special needs, long past the age when she could have retired. She more than deserves a few years relaxing on her farm (which by the way is in CT, not Fla) and she’s been living in and paying taxes in Norwalk all her life. I understand where you’re coming from in terms of some administrators (but remember lots of them don’t live in Norwalk so never DID pay taxes there). But don’t generalize.

I have to agree with Marie. And Dr. Bea, as we call her, is not the only one on the list of retirees who’s a long term Norwalk resident.
