Malloy to seek another minimum wage hike to $10.10 by 2017

Connecticut’s minimum wage increased in January and it’s scheduled to rise again next year, but Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Tuesday that he will seek yet another minimum wage increase to bring Connecticut up to $10.10 per hour by 2017.

At a Bridgeport press conference two days before his budget address, Malloy announced he would look to pass an increase in the minimum wage this legislative session. The proposal mirrors a similar one embraced by President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress.

“I do not think Connecticut should wait,” Malloy said Tuesday. “When it comes to lifting people out of poverty, Connecticut must be a leader as it has always been.”

Brilliant. Just like a historic tax hike to help us survive the Great Recession.
Why stop at $10.10 ? Let’s go for $15 ! That will get everyone’s attention. Especially the firms and jobs leaving the state. Governor Malloy is an innovator. Maybe its time for another tax hike. Let’s support a Governor who stands conventional economics on its head. With awful reults.

What amazes me is that minimum wage hike proponents aren’t even the least bit embarrassed by their complete fundamental misunderstanding of basic economic principals. Then again, it explains why our state economy is in the crapper.

The sad part is these hikes always impact consumer prices well more than the hike supports. So in the end, they get to keep even less of their money and there will be even fewer opportunities for them to get these entry level jobs.

What is the most sinister aspect of this is that Malloy could really care less about the plight of the poor as long as they vote for him. This is a yet another giveaway to unions who’s pay scale is indexed on minimum wage. They stand to gain huge pay increases by lifting of the minimum wage. That is what this is really about and it would be nice if one journalist could report on this.
