NORWALK — The Connecticut Working Families Party has endorsed Democrat Barbara Smyth in her bid for mayor, the party announced Tuesday.
Smyth, a Common Council member and longtime educator, is among 53 candidates across 14 municipalities receiving the party’s support this election cycle. The endorsements include candidates for mayor, city council, and boards of education in cities such as Bridgeport, Danbury, Hartford, New Haven, and New London.
The party said its endorsed candidates have pledged to support stronger public schools, affordable health care and housing, and policies that “prioritize workers over billionaires.”
“It’s well known, no matter your Party or politics, that with Washington at its worst, we need Connecticut to be at its best,” said Sarah Ganong, Connecticut state director of the Working Families Party. “Every cycle we’ve seen how great candidates winning, and then collaborating to drive policy, delivers real results for working people—like defending immigrant neighbors and funding our public schools.”
In addition to Smyth, Working Families endorsed mayoral candidates in Middletown, New Britain and New Haven.
