The Norwalk Fire Department responded to reported structure fire at the Roodner Court Housing Complex, today at 2:25 pm. The fire was confined to a closet in Building 20, apartment 1F and extinguished within minutes of the Firefighters arrival. Prior to the Firefighters arrival, Police officers and housing authority personnel helped to evacuate occupants of the 1st and 2nd floors as the smoke became too intense, the Firefighters finished searching the locked apartments and 3rd floor. Firefighters then used fans to ventilate the building and after monitoring for toxic gases allowed the residents to return to their apartments.
The occupants of the fire apartment were able to remain in their apartment as Housing authority personnel assisted with cleaning up the apartment. Fire Inspector Phil D’Acunto is investigating the cause of the fire.
