Norwalk photos: Sidewalk do over

NORWALK, Conn. — A Norwalk citizen took the photos above recently; it may seem counterintuitive but at left is the “before” picture and at right is the “after” picture.

“Two weeks ago, brand new handicap sidewalk access panels, like the one pictured above, were installed on the corners of Canfield Avenue and Shorehaven Road and then ripped off for repaving. Seems like quite a waste of money,” the citizen said.

“Sure,” Norwalk Director of Communications Michelle Woods Matthews wrote. “We took the opportunity to address drainage to the road and decided to regrade the street. Therefore, those ramps will be rebuilt to meet new elevation. This project is active and should be completed soon.”

She forgot to point out that the first one was just practice and the next one will be even better.

This reminds me of when Eversource dug up newly paved roads to put in gas lines. Good times!!!!!

Profoundly awful planning. Or no planning at all. If this is at all indicative of how Norwalk’s Department of Public Works typically operates, then we have a problem. Who from the Department of Public Works would like to step up and take responsibility for this error, and describe how it will be avoided in the future?

@John Levin: Don’t hold your breath waiting for someone to accept responsibility.
