Heading to the Beach in Norwalk? Here is What You Need to Know

NORWALK, Conn. – With the 4th of July here to kick off the summer here in Norwalk, residents and visitors heading to Calf Pasture and Shady Beach may want to brush up on the city’s rules to have a good beach day.

From parking passes to pets and regulations on playing with balls, the city has a range of policies to keep the waterfront safe for everyone. Here are some things to keep in mind as you pack your beach bags.

Beach Hours

Calf Pasture and Shady Beach will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Splash pad hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

After Labor Day, lifeguards will not be on duty.

Parking

This summer, there are a number of events at Shady Beach and Calf Pasture, like Norwalk’s Independence Day Concert and Fireworks and the 2025 Summer Concert Series. While parking at these events is mostly free, the city urges residents to ensure their license plate is on the Grand list to avoid getting fined.

If a Norwalk resident has a vehicle registered in another town, they can still purchase a Beach or Disposal pass at City Hall.

Non-resident parking is limited to 130 spots daily, and Day Parking passes are available for purchase on the ParkMobile app or at the beach parking lot. However, these are on a first-come, first-served basis. It should be noted that there is no non-resident parking at Shady Beach.

Sale of Goods

Residents cannot sell any food, beverages, goods, or wares.
