A message to the community from the NancyOnNorwalk Board

Since the announcement of Nancy Chapman’s death from cancer on November 3, there has been an outpouring of condolences from not just our community, but from throughout the state as well. While we continue to mourn her loss, it’s tremendously gratifying to know that she was appreciated by so many.

Many of you have also expressed the hope that Nancy’s legacy of hyperlocal journalism will continue. Nancy’s illness this year has required some members of the board to assume responsibility for managing the editing and production of NancyOnNorwalk every day. This has been difficult, and we are keenly aware that we have struggled to meet the reporting standards NoN readers have grown to expect.

This is about to change.

As we told you in September when announcing Nancy’s transition to editor emerita, the Board has been searching for a new managing editor. We anticipate hiring a new full-time managing editor very soon. The Search Committee was pleasantly surprised by both the size and quality of the applicant pool, and we are excited about the finalists we intend to hire from.

Not only will NancyOnNorwalk survive, but we think the future is bright. However, we will need your help to make this happen.

In the coming weeks, we will be asking you to once again show your support for hyperlocal news for Norwalk by contributing to our yearly NewsMatch campaign. For newer readers, NewsMatch is an annual campaign organized by the Institute for Nonprofit News and funded by a variety of national foundations to support non-profit journalism.

NewsMatch has been a critical source that has helped pay for reporters and editorial staff, the technology support that is critical to an online news outlet, and everything else needed to operate an effective 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We ask that you contribute as much as you can to keep the NoN news engine moving forward.

As always, thank you for your support.
