OPINION: A healthy democracy requires respect and civility. Connecticut Republicans demonstrate both.

Connecticut Republicans chose their candidate for Governor in an outbreak of unity and goodwill at the state convention at the Mohegan Sun Expo Center this past weekend. The Norwalk Republican Town Committee was incredibly proud to have our delegates represent Norwalk at the event.

It was the most ordinary, quintessential American thing: convening to nominate candidates for political office. But it was also extraordinary.

The delegates chose a gubernatorial candidate, Ryan Fazio, who models civil discourse, and respects and is respected by his opponents and his friends on both sides of the aisle. His civility was catching; his competitor fought hard but honorably, and when the votes were in, she graciously conceded and threw her support behind him.

The same thing happened in the race for Lieutenant Governor, when Matthew Corey secured the nomination.

Norwalk Republicans modeled this spirit of democracy and respect at the local level. When a third candidate for our district’s race for Congress qualified at the last minute but lacked anyone to nominate her, a Norwalk delegate stepped forward to do so. He believed that everyone deserves their fair chance to be considered for office, and the rest of the Norwalk delegates agreed.

Our delegates proudly stood for the hardworking residents of Norwalk and witnessed firsthand the tremendous momentum building throughout the Republican Party. The Delegates united behind Michael Goldstein for Congress,  Jen Tooker for Comptroller, Peter Lumaj for Secretary of State, John Bolton for Attorney General, and Norwalk’s own Fred Wilms for Treasurer.  The positivity, enthusiasm, and determination throughout the convention were impossible to ignore. There is a renewed sense of optimism and strength spreading across Connecticut, and the excitement for the future is real.

The Norwalk Republican Town Committee is honored to be part of this movement and more motivated than ever to continue fighting for the values, families, businesses, and future of Norwalk.

There’s nothing “civil” or “respectful” about ICE raids lawlessly taking our neighbors and killing US citizens.

Civility and respect are not some abstract costume you can put on when it suits you. They must be lived.

There’s nothing “civil” or “respectful” about the January 6th insurrection at our nations capitol where police officers were brutally attacked, even killed. There is nothing “civil” or “respectful “ about those insurrectionists now potentially receiving up to $1 million per claim in reparations., using US tax payer money. There is nothing “civil” or “respectful” about grown men, including the POTUS, being in the Epstein files, being aligned with pedophilia, and worse. If your party is so “civil” and “respectful “, please ACT LIKE IT.

Pales in comparison to the likely billions robbed from the Federal, State, and Local taxpayers on behalf of these “illegal immigrants”, which – in effect – are nothing more than insurrectionists in their own right.

What exactly makes them “nothing more than insurrectionists”?

Call it what you want. Breaching our borders and completely disregarding our immigration laws. I view this as an “insurrection” equal to any other.

Political bigotry is still bigotry and TDS is real.

If strongly believing in the 4th and 14th Amendments makes me a “political bigot”, then I happily accept that slander.

Sounds like we have some fired up people…It’s almost as if Dems have no warts.
Regarding ICE — I agree they’re behavior is not right. That being said it’s a byproduct of the chaos created by the last administration. Regarding rounding up our neighbors? If you’re pointing out the Norwalk incident from last August, I’d recommend doing a little background check on those picked up.
I also wish our BOE would do a better job of managing the Superintendents they hire. As opposed to the current climate which seems to be the other way around.
I think the Republicans do have the high ground on Norwalk Schools — I hope they’re able to do something about that.
When was the last time there were passionate discussions pushed by our locals on blowing up the ECS and starting all over again with an EQUITABLE solution?
    Like Never….Holy Grail I guess…

This article about Republican party choosing to rally around candidate Ryan Fazio who is the candidate after the others dropped out is about unity and attempting to give CT voters a choice for Governor against Ned Lamont. Choice is needed in this state as the business as usual under one party rule is clearly leading the state off the cliff to bankruptcy and negligence in goverenance.

The comments are always the same, painting local Republicans as monsters by deranged Democrats that are just so lost in their own insanity, they can’t even articulate or discuss reasons or issues, but rather just foment and push HATE and a divisive and unproductive position.

If you want to hate all Republicans because you don’t like who is in charge in Washington, DC then you are missing your own opportunity to have a choice of who governs you FIRST here locally and statewide. National elections have their time, don’t lose the opportunity to tune in and make the STATE of CT better!
