Welcome NancyOnNorwalk’s New Managing Editor

Nancy on Norwalk - News coverage that shines a light on Norwalk, CT.

We are pleased to announce that we have hired a new managing editor. Please join us in welcoming Ashley RK Smith to NancyOnNorwalk!

Ashley will cover Norwalk as well as leading our editorial team as we build on the legacy of our late founding journalist, Nancy Chapman.

Ashley brings to NoN experience reporting, editing and managing newsroom operations for online and broadcast media. In addition to her professional background, the Board was impressed with her passion and ideas for uncovering meaningful stories that impact all members of the community.

Most recently, Ashley worked as an assignment editor at Hartford’s Fox61 television station, where she coordinated news coverage and content production. Before that she was an assignment editor and contributed to content creation for WFSB-TV’s website and social media. Prior to her time in Connecticut, Ashley was a multimedia producer at KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau, MO, and worked as a digital specialist, producing videos and images for small businesses.

Outside work, Ashley is a talented digital and film photographer who participates in local art shows in her spare time. As a Connecticut resident, she’s become enamored with Norwalk’s blend of history and modernity:

“I love to explore Norwalk with my camera; it’s a really beautiful city. You have all these historical houses, industrial sites, and a touch of modern architecture all mixed in with community parks. It’s a perfect slice of Connecticut, with so much history. I love it.”

Ashley and her wife, Natalie, a former teacher in Hartford, will soon relocate to Norwalk. But with her new role at NoN effective immediately, Ashley has already begun covering local government meetings and events.

She’ll also be reaching out to the community to introduce herself and listen for story ideas.

While Nancy Chapman’s recent loss has been deeply felt by all of us, we believe the future is incredibly bright for NancyOnNorwalk. We’re confident that Ashley will help us carry on Nancy’s legacy of independent news, while ensuring NoN continues to serve and reflect the needs of our diverse community.

As we look ahead, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the overwhelming support we’ve received from all of you in the past. Your engagement and contributions make it possible for NoN to remain an independent, hyperlocal news source dedicated to bringing Norwalk the stories that matter most. With our annual NewsMatch fundraising campaign now underway, donations made before Dec. 31 will be matched, doubling your impact. If you haven’t already, please consider making a contribution today.

We are excited about the journey ahead and are grateful for your continued support!

    Welcome to Norwalk, Ashley!

Thank you, Ashley, and the NON Board of Directors for continuing Nancy Chapman’s and Chapman family’s legacy.

I know it took great caring and dedication by the Board to keep NON online while also caring for and grieving our friend.

Ashley, you have big shoes to fill, as we know Nancy still had many more “stories to tell”.

    Congratulations 🎊

    Welcome!

Thank you for taking on this important task! Once you get settled in, perhaps you can investigate a city program where they intend to put “bike lanes” and sidewalks on EVERY STREET in norwalk. We already have bike lanes which are ridiculous b/c they are the same lanes as the traffic lanes— not sure how we got away with that! Here are a few regulations for CT that were completely ignored:

Bike lanes are EXCLUSIVE lanes on the right side of the road with bicycle pavement markings and arrows.

They should be AT LEAST 2 meters wide.

Motorists must allow a minimum of 3 feet of separation when passing a bicyclist.

Clearly there was not space for bike lanes, now we are going to install sidewalks on top of this?
